Thomas F. Mathews
Thomas F. Mathews is Emeritus Professor of History of Art at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University. With degrees in theology (S.T.L., Weston College) and the history of art (Ph.D., New York University) the author has particular competence in exploring the profound religious dimensions of Christian culture. He has lectured and published on early Christian art and Architecture for half a century, his most famous books are The Early Churches of Constantinople, Architecture and Liturgy and The Clash of Gods, A Reinterpretation of Early Christian Art. His present project has won outstanding awards from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, the J. Paul Getty Trust and the Leverhulme Foundation.
