Mircea Eliade

Mircea Eliade was the scholar who contributed most to the development of the history of religions during the 1900s. He lived in India from 1928 to 1931 and taught Philosophy at the University of Bucharest from 1933 to 1938. Cultural attaché in London and then in Lisbon, in 1945 he was appointed professor at the École des Hautes Études in Paris. He has taught at the Sorbonne and in several European universities. From 1957 he was professor of History of Religions at the University of Chicago, where in 1985 a chair was established in his honor. With Jaca Book he has published numerous narrative works, essays and great works, such as the Encyclopedia of Religions directed by Mircea Eliade, European Thematic Edition, edited by D.M. Cosi, L. Saibene, R. Scagno (1991 - 17 vols., 15 of which have already been published).
