Hundreds of people are sitting on the lawn, everybody is listening to that man dressed in white who speaks of God in a way nobody has ever done before. Marco and Luca are listening too, they know he is a special man, “a sort of prophet” Marco guesses, he is called Jesus of Nazareth. Thus they decide to follow him. They are with him when he gives food to thousands of people out of a couple of fish and a few bread. “He was right” Marco points out “when he said that the hungry ones should rejoice, since God would feed them!”. Once, even if the disciples tried to prevent them, Marco and Luca even manage to hug Jesus and be blessed by him…Following Luke’s gospel the author thus tells us the story of these two boys, starting from their first meeting with Jesus up to when they see him crucified and later come to new life. Through their eyes we see all these episodes from a new point of view, we follow their refl ections and together with them we experience both moments of great enthusiasm and of fear. Lukas Ruegenberg’s illustrations, with their light water colours and quick drawing, help creating the atmosphere of each scene. Far from being just a decorative element, they are on the contrary closely linked to the story, following it faithfully and enriching it with curious, funny details.
